What is zero point Energy?

 Hello readers, I am Nandakishore. Today we will discuss about Zero Point energy.

All of us think that Vacuum is empty. Well, it is not true when comes to quantum mechanics. In Quantum Mechanics if you dive deeper below the level of molecules, atoms, electrons into sub atomic particles like quarks present inside an electron, you could see that even the Vacuum of Space can never be truly empty. It is filled with particle that randomly pops in and out of existence. But the exiting thing about these fluctuating particles are that it generates energy which could be hypothetically harnessed by us and use it for our needs. 

This energy is called ZERO POINT ENERGY. This is nothing but simply the vacuum energy and according to calculations in quantum field theory, Vacuum of Space holds Infinite amount of such particles that generates energy .i.e infinite energy. According to scientists, if we could find a way to harness this energy, only a cup of it is enough to boil all the water in Earth. In quantum mechanics, things behave differently when compared to classical physics. For example, you cant know where a particle is until you observe it. The more accurately you determine the position of the particle, the less accurately you can determine its momentum. Its called the Heisenberg Uncertainty principle and applies to particle duration and energy as well. This principle tells that zero point energy exists but we just need to find a way to collect it. The average temperature in vacuum space is around 2.7 Kelvin, to receive that energy you simply need a colder source. But the problem is that it is not possible as far as our technology goes, we cant pull energy out of nowhere unless we could reduce the vacuum energy in a region of space first. 

According to the second law of thermal dynamics the vacuum would try to fill in the gap and that's where we could interfere and collect the zero point energy but this method wouldn't be that effective energy because we would spend more energy trying to extract zero point energy. If we go into the future where we are able to extract this Zero point energy, the utility bill would only be a fairy tale because at that there is infinite energy and it would be free to us. This could be a major key for the development of civilization.
